This first West African forum on the mountains has the purpose of promoting sustainability and environmental justice by urging, through lobbying and advocacy, governments, local decision makers, traditional authorities and of environmental NGOs, to consider sustainable management of mountain ecosystems in their national development policies and action plans.

Educate stakeholders and the Togolese people on one hand, on the benefits and challenges related to the integration of mountain ecosystems in national development policies and action plans, and secondly, the role of mountains in adaptation to climate change;
Accustom stakeholders the tools and methodologies of Lobbying and advocacy for the integration of mountain ecosystems in national development policies and action plans;
Give both to scientists, researchers, protection actors mountains or transboundary mountain ecosystems as traditional authorities, the opportunity to share information and discuss national issues relating to the protection of mountains and research needs Protection mountains. These exchanges will develop a common strategy for lobbying and advocacy for the integration of mountain ecosystems in national development policies and action plans in West Africa;
Engaging members of the Ecosystem Management Commission of IUCN in West Africa (IUCN-CEM) to collaboratively define a revitalization plan of the commission and if possible to develop an action plan for a given period; and
Develop a women’s involvement blueprint western mountainous areas of Africa in the actions of empowerment meet their energy needs and livelihood as well as adaptation to climate change.
