Akvo is a non-profit foundation which builds open source internet and mobile software designed to support international development partnership networks, and make cooperation and aid activity more effective and transparent. Akvo provides its software as a service, backed by a global partner-support and training team. Akvo has staff in 13 countries across five continents. Hundreds of organisations are using Akvo tools and services, involving more than €1.5 billion of programmes to date. Akvo was established in 2007 to improve transparency and data sharing related to water and sanitation investments and cooperation, and has since extended its reach to embrace health, education, agriculture, conservation and economic development.
Role in AfriAlliance
Akvo has a substantial role in both WP4 as well as WP2 and WP3. In WP3, Akvo will develop the online Community Platform supported by the expertise on development of software and building of websites, specifically focused on developing countries and cooperation between partners. In WP4 Akvo will develop a blueprint for monitoring water resources supported by Akvo’s large expertise in the field (on the ground) using and building the latest ICT (mobile) technologies. (Akvo FLOW). Furthermore, Akvo will provide its mobile surveying technology in WP2 to contribute crowdsourced, local demands to the R&I agenda.
