Climate plays a significant role on the country’s economic development. Regular communication of weather and climate issues enable government, various stakeholders and the development sector to improve on decision making for climate change response, risk reduction and adopting a resilient approach for tackling the challenges to sustain economic growth. This contributes largely to climate resilient developmental response over and above management of risks and extremes brought by the changing climate.

The primary purpose of the dialogue is to discuss amongst others weather and climate risks at hand and provide an outlook and advisory in order to inform planning, risk reduction and adaptive response. Different experts are drawn from a variety of institutions across South Africa and are convened through a community of practice as part of the Advisory Panel on Weather and Climate for the Water Sector. Secondly, it provides a reflection of the 2019-2020 summer to winter seasons with outlook and reflections from the water security and an agricultural perspective. The aim is to continue examining the predicted changes in an attempt to understand the nature of the future climate with a purpose of recommending the appropriate responses for selected water-linked sectors.
