Online Workshop: Lessons from the Decolonization Era for Natural Resource Sovereignty Today

  • online course
  • water resources

Post-Colonialisms Today and Third World Network-Africa invite you to join us for a virtual workshop on the struggle for natural resource sovereignty in Africa, from colonialism to today. This event will share lessons from our research and advocacy work, invite new allies, and welcome registrants to engage in small group discussions. Please sign up at bit.ly/DecolResources

Day 1 (18 November) will examine early post-independence attempts to transform the continent’s dependence on primary commodity exports, including through the nationalization of mines, revenue maximization, and development planning. Building on these lessons, Day 2 (19 November) will explore contemporary policy frameworks like the Africa Mining Vision and Post-Cotonou Agreement, and the necessity of transforming Africa’s place in the global economic order. We encourage you to attend both days, if possible.

Please sign up below to join the discussions. Welcoming any questions or comments at postcolonialismstoday@regionsrefocus.org. Learn more about Post-Colonialisms Today at bit.ly/WhatIsPCT and about Third World Network-Africa at twnafrica.org.

  • 2–3:30 PM Accra, Dakar
  • 3–4:30 PM Tunis, Lagos
  • 4–5:30 PM Cairo, Johannesburg
