The Broker has been selected by Rabobank to provide support to their upcoming session titled  “Sustainable finance for food systems transformation: Setting the Agenda”. The session is part of the agenda of the 2021 United Nations Food Systems Pre-Summit, held in Rome, Italy and online from 26–28 July 2021. This event, open to all who want to participate, reaffirms the United Nations’ intention to establish an open and participatory Summit, where youth, farmers, indigenous peoples, civil society, researchers, private sector, policy leaders and ministers of agriculture, environment, health, nutrition and finance will convene and share the latest evidence-based and scientific approaches to food systems transformation from around the world.

Ultimately, the Pre-Summit will bring together the best ideas from all the participants, defining the agenda and identifying priorities for the Summit.

About the Session

Since 2017, there has been a strong increase in Sustainability-Linked Loans (SLLs): loans used to finance projects where the main goal is sustainability, especially in the Food and Agriculture (F&A) sector of emerging markets.

Rabobank has been active in different areas worldwide, including Africa, Central America, and South-East Asia, working with loans aimed at helping farmers adopt sustainable agricultural practices. Despite increased interest, however, emerging markets remain underserved in terms of sustainable financing solutions, even if SLLs have the potential to be a powerful tool to make F&A business more resilient and future-proof, while at the same time contributing to securing Food Systems globally.

In this critical agenda-setting session, Rabobank experts will explore how to further mainstream the incorporation of a sustainability feature in all loans issued in the F&A sector, with the goal of bringing sustainability from a niche feature to a ‘new normal’ in the financing world.

If you are interested in hearing more, please join the session on July 26, at 19.30 (Central European Time) by registering at this link.
