Action to improve access to clean, safe water supplies must bring sustainable solutions to poor rural communities. Approximately 80% of people without access to an improved water source live in rural areas around the world. In this context, AfriAlliance is pleased to announce that it has signed an MoU with the Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN), a Switzerland-based organisation representing water supply professionals worldwide. RWSN has over 10,000 members in 150 countries and a strategic mission to achieve universal access to safe, affordable water supplies globally through knowledge sharing and capacity development of water sector professionals.

RWSN and AfriAlliance will harness the power of our networks to share knowledge and connect research on climate and water issues, to enable cross-fertilisation of the AfriAlliance Action Groups and the RWSN thematic groups, and to build lasting networks in the water sector in Africa. We will explore the opportunities and conditions to jointly provide for strategic research and innovation for water and climate in Africa by specifically looking at how mandated African institutions can be supported to facilitate research and put innovation into use.
