Citizen science encourages the public to get involved and to contribute data and local knowledge to addressing important issues, such as climate change and water management. AfriAlliance is pleased to announce that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Citizen Science Africa Association (CitSAf) based in Nairobi to encourage the uptake of citizen science in countries across the continent. Citizen science can foster understanding of different environmental challenges and promote the use of locally-gathered data to help individuals and communities take part in creating solutions. AfriAlliance and CitSAf are both interested in getting policy makers to value the input coming from communities for improved decision making. By bringing African stakeholders together through our various initiatives, AfriaAlliance and CitSAf can jointly address that mission.

CitSAf and AfriAlliance will share mutually beneficial contacts and exchange information about best practices for involving citizens and communities in collecting data and supporting them in taking greater responsibility for their environment, including water and climate. We look forward to this partnership with hopes to advance sustainable development cooperation!
