  • Water Security

AWSAM 2020 is a joint conference organized by Africa Centre of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) of the Addis Ababa University and the China-Africa Water Association (CAWA). This conference will focus on water security and aquatic ecosystems management and its importance for food security, conflict mitigation, and economic development, with a particular focus on African countries. Water is an essential resource for Africa’s development. An increase in water demand has resulted from increasing population growth coupled with climate change. As water availability constantly declines, water resources management in Africa is becoming very important to meet the increasing demand for food and energy, protecting the health of water ecosystems.

The aim of the conference is to address the current water resource challenges with technological and institutional solutions, and to indicate future pathways and scenarios in line with the implementation of water-related Sustainable Development Goals with an aim of ‘leaving no one behind’. Over 500 participants from all over the world are expected to attend the conference, where scientists, engineers, water practitioners, policymakers, civil society, and government officials will interact with each other. The conference will help set directions that the science community should take in order to solve the challenges of our water systems and develop innovative solutions for the region and beyond.
